Watts to Amps (W → A) calculator

  • Formula: A = Watts / Volts.
  • Example: 200W at 230V ≈ 0.87A. 200W at 24V ≈ 8.33A (low voltage = higher current → thicker/shorter sooner).
  • Leave headroom: pick components (dimmer/driver/cable) with 20–30% extra capacity, and always follow product specs.

Tip:Always check the rating label/specs of your dimmer, driver, plug, cable and reel.

Practical tips (headroom, reels, dimmers)

Dimmers and drivers often have min/max loads. Add all lamps together and stay below the max (with margin).
Cable reels: for higher loads, fully unwind when possible (heat). Always follow reel ratings.
Low voltage (12/24V): keep runs short and go thicker sooner to limit voltage drop.

FAQ

Use: A = Watts / Volts. For 230V divide by 230; for 24V divide by 24; for 12V divide by 12.
Lower voltage means higher current for the same watts. Higher current increases voltage drop and heat losses—so keep runs shorter and go thicker.
A practical rule of thumb is 20–30% headroom. Also always check min/max ratings for dimmers and drivers.
Some drivers have high inrush peaks. Check product specs and use extra headroom if unsure.
